First Week Back

Hi Families,
Happy New Year!

Your children seem to have had growth spurts in the short time we were away from school! They were also happy and excited to be back at school playing with friends, reading new books and writing about their adventures during our break.

This week we embarked upon a new adventure. Our crew became scientists. We explored the question, "What will sink and what will float?"

Everyone got to experience choosing objects, predicting what would happen when they were dropped in water and recording the results.

Your child might want to continue the experiment when she/he has a bath by taking a few items to the tub, predicting what will happen, and then dropping the items in the water. Children are sharing their "tub" experiences at school the next day.

When we read a big book about scientist the children noticed that scientists often wear white coats/shirts. That made us think we might like to dress like scientists when we do our experiments. However, I don't want this to be a problem for anyone. If you have one or two old white shirts that you could donate would you please email me? If I am unable to round up enough shirts I will drop the idea. It is just a detail and not necessary.

It is so important for children to share their writing with others. We make room in our day to celebrate the wonderful stories we write, to share them with each other and to ask questions of the authors.

Children are using the computers in our room to support learning of word families.
They use the computers independently and enjoy the activity.

During math block we have been discussing and exploring sequencing e.g., every child made a sequence chart of their day (something they do at the start of the day, something at the middle of the day, and something they do at the end of the day).

Have a great weekend!
Kathy
